Davenport is a city located in Polk County, Florida with a population of around 2,888. The city of Davenport started in the 1880s with the extension of the South Florida Raliroad. The city was originally known as Horse Creek and a post office was built in the city. In 1886, the post office changed its name to Davenport. The city of Davenport was also named after Colonel William Davenport who served as a commander in the Second Seminole War.
